Conatus by omentejovem
The Struggle to Persevere in It's Own Being
“Conatus” marks a new concept by omentejovem. Created over a long and introspective period following his last drop six months ago, the piece reflects months of experimentation, subconscious exploration, and personal reflection.
Since his previous release, omentejovem has focused on giving himself time to observe his own creative process more carefully, making decisions based on what feels right for the concept: composition, color, empty space, detail, and what his subconscious may be trying to communicate.
Like many of his recent works, “Conatus” began through automatism, a technique rooted in allowing imagery to emerge freely from the unconscious mind rather than through deliberate planning. Although he intuitively explored this process from a young age, the artist later connected his practice to traditions explored by artists such as André Masson, Joan Miró, and Jackson Pollock, as well as spiritualist practices connected to subconscious expression.
As the composition evolved through reflected lines, mirrored forms, and layered pointillism, the work began to evoke a spiritual atmosphere reminiscent of Hilma af Klint. Influenced by ideas surrounding the subconscious, dreams, and the cosmos, omentejovem embraced darker tones and contrasting colors to create a more galactic visual environment, continuously revisiting decisions around orientation, balance, and symbolism throughout the process.
For the artist, automatism is not only about spontaneous creation, but also about discovering meaning afterward, building concepts around forms that emerge intuitively and allowing subconscious emotions to surface into conscious understanding. Rather than beginning with a fixed narrative, he prefers to sit with the work and decipher what it truthfully means to him over time.
The final composition incorporates recurring symbols within his practice, subtle but significant elements connected to broader themes of existence, spirituality, and transformation. The title itself references the philosophical concept introduced by Baruch Spinoza: the innate inclination of a thing to continue to exist and enhance itself.
Created between December 2025 and May 2026, “Conatus” was developed alongside other sketches and concepts, with the artist frequently stepping away and returning with a fresh perspective whenever the work felt unresolved.
“Conatus” is presented as a fully on-chain 1/1 artwork minted on Ethereum through Manifold, with technical support from YungWknd, ACK, and Richerd, reflecting omentejovem’s ongoing interest in permanence, preservation, and documenting emotional truth on-chain.
“Conatus” is now available on SuperRare for 6 ETH reserve.
The NFT also comes with a 103 × 78 cm Fine Art Print, signed and year-dated, with certificate included. Printed with mineral pigments on Photo Rag 308g, 100% cotton.
